Originally from Florida, Garrett and his wife Lara, have three sons. Garrett graduated from Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida, then completed a Master of Divicapitolhillbaptist.orgnity at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. It was during this time in college and seminary that Garrett worked for UPS, waited tables, and worked for the family logging business in northeast Florida.  

Prior to coming to La Plata Baptist Church, Garrett had interned at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida; First Baptist Church in Hilliard, Florida and Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.  

After Garrett finished seminary training he then interned and served on staff at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. In April of 2010, he accepted the call to pastor La Plata Baptist Church.
