Planted by Streams of Water
1. Planted = passive verb. We cannot transplant ourselves from the wilderness of sin to the garden of salvation. God must do it (cf. Ephesians 2:8–9)
2. Streams of water = riches of God's grace driven by God's Word (cf. Psalm 46:4).
3 Results of Being Sustained by God
1. Yields Fruit in Season
a. God's people continually bear fruit (Galatians 5:22–23)
b. Jesus is the root, we bear the fruit (John 15:1–8)
c. Always be in season – no off-season for the believer (cf. 2 Timothy 4:2)
2. Leaf Does Not Wither
a. God keeps his people from perishing (Jude 24)
b. Leaves wither if too hot or not enough water (Isaiah 64:6)
c. Stay rooted in the good soil of God's Word (Mark 4:8–9, 14, 20)
3. Prospers in All He Does
a. Not financial prosperity, but soul prosperity – we are rich toward God (2 Corinthians 8:9)
b. Jesus is our only hope for a prosperous life, ultimately in heaven (John 14:3, 6).
