I have long prayed for our congregation to be faithful in evangelism. I think that the Lord has given us much grace in this regard. Several members of our congregation are in active conversations with co-workers, family members, friends, and neighbors. I praise God for that. Earlier in the week, I realized that while I was regularly praying for us to be faithful in evangelism, I hadn’t been praying as often as I should that the Lord would bring fruit from it. It’s not that I haven’t been praying for the Lord to bring about fruit from these conversations, it’s just that I haven’t been asking him to do so as often as I should. I feel a little silly.
It is an obvious request to make of God, and obviously I should make that request more often. In fact, I’m going to endeavor to pray for fruitfulness every time I pray for faithfulness. Only the Lord can bring about fruit, and we should ask him to bring it about. Keep going in sharing the gospel with your co-workers, family members, friends, and neighbors, and know that I’ll be praying for the Lord to bear fruit in those conversations. When you hear about your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ having gospel conversations with those who do not believe, be sure to pray for them to be faithful and for the Lord to be fruitful. May the Lord bring himself glory by answering these prayers for faithfulness and fruitfulness.
