KNOWING GOD

dove

Do you have a relationship with God? He is our Creator and Father of us all. A closer relationship is ours as we accept Christ as Savior. How does this happen?

We acknowledge that all of us are sinners. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) We are by choice estranged from God. Since all have sinned I must admit that I am a sinner. The result of sin is death. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23) I need to turn from sin and turn to God.

Having admitted I am a sinner I now turn to recognize that through Jesus' death and resurrection I can have salvation by believing in Jesus Christ as my Savior and trusting my soul and life to him. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. (John 3:16). Trusting Jesus, claiming him as Savior and committing my life to follow him not only gives me a life after death, but gives me an abundant life here on earth. Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10b)

After you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you probably want to share your decision with someone else. You may want to let a friend know the joy you have found. You will want to talk to a pastor or a Christian friend about your decision. Following Christ's example, ask for baptism by immersion in your local church as a public expression of your faith. "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and is saved." (Romans 10:9-10)
